I thought of Toy Story when I read this as well! I grew up with TS and was convinced for many years that my toys sid in fact have their own secret life. I was also haunted by my math homework. I feel like I could really relate to this opera lol.
This is awesome. I've off to watch a recording of "L'enfant et les sortilèges" with my best headphones. Gotta love child imperilment - especially when accompanied by singing.
What a fascinating collection - the Ravel piece, the Innocents. They are settling down into my subconscious and I can feel them exploring. Thank you, Rebekah!
I'd never really sat and considered the oddness of Bolero before, but the strangeness creeps into the music so early on that I'm left wondering how I've missed it! Between that and L'enfant, I might have to disappear down a Ravel rabbit hole now... Another excellent article, thank you!
I had exactly the same thought process! He’s so much more interesting than you think when you first head Bolero. Thanks, Kev, I’m glad you’re enjoying them!
Thanks so much, Anna, I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! The cats had to go in the article, I love the fact that Ravel put weirdly sexual felines on stage long before Lloyd Webber.
So the kid is Sid from Toy Story?
Oh my god, yes!! Still traumatised by him...

Sounds like it, haha! I like to think I would have had a great relationship with my toys if they were sentient.

Agreed ;)

Thanks, Roz! I'm glad you are enjoying them — I wonder what dreams you’ll have…

This sounds amazing, and I've never heard of it before. Those cats alone are brilliant. Thanks so much for the posts, I'm learning so much from you.
