Favourite Woodcuts: Hocus Pocus Junior (1634)
I liked learning the origin of Hocus Pocus & all the other tidbits you shared- fun!
Thanks, Posy! He’s a fun character
Do you read The Guardian?
Yes, I do. What gave it away?
Oh, nothing. I liked the sly effort to get others to read your thesis.
Thanks, it's hard to get anyone excited about academia.
😉
I very nearly stole 'Don't say x, do say y'...
In for a penny 😁 next time!
If only to identify fellow Guardian readers…
So fascinating! 🖤
Thank you, Sheila!!
Hahaha I love your Q&A format and this woodcut
Thank you, Anne!
Very interesting!!
Thanks, Jane!
Congratulations on seeing your thesis “in lights”.
This is gold. I'm very much hoping the full recitation of "hocus pocus, tontus tabantus, vade celeriter jubeo" makes a comeback!
yeah, but what happens if you say it into a mirror three times at midnight?
Oh god, I don’t want to find out!
Come to think of it, "hocus pocus, tontus tabantus, vade celeriter jubeo" actually sounds a lot like a lyric from I Am The Walrus.... but of course it does. They were magicians after all.
True true
Thank you Mark - I agree, I think we need to return to long and convoluted magical sayings, they’re far more theatrical and fun
