Just wanted to say that I’m not familiar with Gorey at all but I’m absolutely loving this series. Thanks for the introduction.

Thanks so much, Lou, this is so lovely to hear! There are some absolute gems lined up in the rest of the series.

I had the Laura Marling song "Devil's Resting Place" playing through my head as I was reading this. What a delightfully creepy story! And I'm convinced my cats (three, going on nine or ten) WOULD try and prevent my demise if only because of the fact they haven't figured out how to use a can opener. I suppose one never really knows, though...

That’s fair, there are some good ones out there. #notallcats

For some reason I'm put in mind of Lucy from Disenchanted

I had to google her but yes! Very cute/creepy, the Gorey dichotomy.

That was oddly frightening. The demon fly kick to the back. Death by demon karate. What a way to go.

YES it is a karate kick, that’s the perfect description.

Such a delight. Demonic pets are the worst! This is a warning to us all.

Rebekah King's avatar

Haha yes, they are awfully troublesome. Thanks John!

Ooh, I don't recall this story, but how awesome that Gorey obviously was familiar with the depictions of Beëlphazoar! I love the details he puts into his drawings, right down to the pictures on the walls. Nothing is accidental.

Thanks so much for this fun series, Rebekah!

Definitely, and I think he had fun with the little scene-within-a scene in part because he couldn’t be bothered to do wallpaper in her house but still wanted to add something fun to look at! Thanks, Sheila!
